About Us Governance » Introduction

WEA YMCA CC Cymru's Council

WEA YMCA CC Cymru is governed by a Council of 20 people – 16 appointed and 4 elected governors. Those elected are 2 staff governors and 2 learner governors. The Council’s role is to provide overall leadership and scrutiny, ensuring that the organisation meets its mission and purpose while retaining its principles and values, at the same time as it abides by the stipulations of its funding bodies.

The Council has eight committees to which it delegates some of its authorities – audit and corporate governance, finance and general purposes, staffing, curriculum, quality and learner experience, Welsh language and Welshness, voluntary movement, and search. These committees, formed of governors and co-opted members with specific expertise, decide and provide recommendations to Council on the development of our strategic direction and policy. They try to ensure that the learners’ voice is central, that WEA YMCA CC Cymru is meeting its targets, is financially sound and is compliant with legal and financial regulations, and that the views of the organisation’s wider membership are reflected in our work.
